My V10 S8 has passed 120k miles so I took it into Makies early this year. I left it with them Thursday afternoon.
Next day, late Friday, I got the call to collect it. When I arrived at Mackies I was told that they had been unable to remove the sump from the gearbox due to seized manifold nuts/bolts, so on the bosses advice, left the car overnight with hot, fresh oil flushing it. The final bill was less than the quote, due to being unable to complete the job as specified, and they took the hit on the £600 (apparently) of oil consumed.
The gearbox firmware was updated, as was the oil.
Since then I guess the box may be changing a bit faster, but it has always been good with none of the jerky changes I've seen mentioned here on other D3 S8's.
I am unhappy that the job was not completed as I expected, but hey ho.
Interestingly in parting I was told that mine was the first D3 S8 they had had in and they most certainly would not accept another for this work.
At some point I will have gearbox serviced correctly, and this will not be with Makies.
