All 'D3' A8s have a battery manager ECU, albeit with different hardware and firmware levels. Audi have never published the logic of the BM or what issues the different levels fixed.

There ARE BM ECUs that need a firmware update; these are H11 versions on 2004-2005 cars.
And different AUX heaters are installed on petrol and diesel cars

Guess you have a petrol A8 Lee; these have heaters that can preheat. Diesels have a simpler one that only heats the circulating water in winter.
