I think the RFL on the 4.2 TDIs is £500pa. I've not seen any make it in before the March 06 - 06 reg - point at which the higher rate was introduced. I don't think the 4.2 was introduced in time to beat the higher rate coming into force.

I have a 4.0 TDI which is £290 a year.

I understand completely what everyone says about it being just an annual cost and a dip in the ocean in the grand scheme of things.

I do still arrive at something of a mental roadblock when i encounter the £500 a year band though. Don't know what it is or why but subconsciously it stops me and makes me think. I cannot explain it or rationalize it - but it happens!

I know the time will come when I have to overcome this, as I will want / need a newer vehicle which is more likely to fall into this higher rate so I will move my mind passed it eventually.

I would say that if the improvements made to the 4.2 TDi over the 4.0 TDi are as impressive as people make them out to be then it'd certainly be worth considering making that leap for though. The fairly low miles on this one have to make it tempting too!
