I wouldn't connect with VCDS until you've tried the other CD's firstly. Are there any faults logged in any MMI modules?
When a failed update happens a MOST component could have gone off line and broken the optical loop.

Hi Matt. I've tried CD1 again, but it says it's unreadable. It was burned at x4 speed. I'm going to buy some more CDs and burn them slower and keep trying each of them while the car's hooked up to the charger.
I've read all the horror stories about updating MMI and steering clear of boot loader, which I did. Yet, it's gone a bit wrong
