To folks who don't know (I didn't til I found out on here) you can avoid washing the lights when the lights are on on by pulling the washer stalk towards you for short periods of time, on and off quickly.
If you pull it for too long the lights get sprayed (and then on mine at least, the overspray lands on the windscreen
)
