OK well the update is that the service exchange gearbox has been ordered from VAG/ZF and is going to be fitted this coming week. It comes with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty and a lot of back up from VAG which is why I've chosen to go this route. With a changed MAF sensor and regular oil changes from start I'm hoping my "investment" will mean no future gearbox woes for a very long time.
If all goes well then I should be able to run it up to the meet next weekend, albeit with none of the work I had planned to do done to it lol. . . wish me luck and keep your fingers and toes crossed guys 'n gals. . .
