You might be able to answer this Michaela,
The loop of wire attached to the caliper bracket: I've seen this on several cars I've had, is it there literally for hanging the caliper onto the spring with a hook for use during pad/disc changes?


Ah, hang on... Forget all that! It's there to guide the hose during lock-to-lock on the steering and prevent it pinching or scraping or going anywhere undesirable isn't it!
That makes far more sense as to why they'd bother fitting it...
Using it to hang the caliper is just an unintended benefit!
