I would not call No. 20 a t-pipe. It is t-piece or t-joint part number N 906 930 01. It is ordinary plastic t-piece 8x8x8mm that you do not need to buy from dealer but should be able to get from any car part shop. T pipes would be No. 1 or 12. The thread You pointed to talks about V6 engines and the pipe which would be equivalent to No12. also it is very unlikely for pipe to burst, it could be the rubber o-rings at the ends of pipe.
I would take a look by Yourself first to see where the problem is don't trust AA guys. While some are really knowledgeable others can't do much more then change a wheel, get you a petrol when you have run out or tow You to nearest garage or home.
I do not use any road assistance service myself but I do have stories from friends. Once a car of friend's stopped while driving making horrible noise, AA guy said it has fuel delivery problem and he can't fix it so towed him to my house as my friend requested. Turned out he have been running with low oil level had a oil pressure light come up couple of times before when cornering because camshaft seals were leaking quite badly and he only topped up oil when the light came on. Camshaft have not been oiled properly, damaged camshaft seats overheated and seized one of them causing cambelt to jump over.
Other story just last week a friend could not start the car, called AA they came out and said it could be starter motor stuck or blocked pipe did not even say which pipe. WTF engine was turning over how can it be stuck starter motor. I dropped by after work immediately realised that fuel pump is not running starting by checking fuses and sure enough fuel pump fuse have been put in 5A instead of 15A in the past, had been blown and repaired by piece of wire. Wire connection have become loose and made open circuit. Some moron have done this even so all the spare fuses were in the place unused. Replaced the fuse and everything is fine. Took me less then to write this post. Talk about AA competence.
I am sure others have experienced situations like this as well.
