this is the number that were licensed each year not new registrations so as a rough guide you can take the number of each year from the next year to see approx how many registrations there have been since the last amount. From 97 - 2002 this comes to only 674 S8 cars registered for D2's during that period, so even rarer than it looks!

I'm not sure we've got this right. It says this is "statistics for every make and model of car
registered in the UK" (so I suggest Amar might be correct) and somehow it doesn't seem to make sense. Why was the uptake so slow for the S8 up to 2002 and why were so many registered when a new model was coming along?
