Ah, so I'm not so crazy after all. I did say my lifetime. I wasn't around in the 60/70s or even the 80s for that matter (sadly) 
That Nissan is awesome, the first Jap car I've ever wanted and I would have it over an R8 V10 but not a 997 turbo S. As Top Gear is mainly for entertainment, I bet the quote for the ignition coil was from a Merc dealer and enthusiasts like us could get one sourced and fitted for a heck of a lot cheaper.
