I know this is an old thread but I have a similar problem.
Unlike the above my display starts to dim after a couple of hours driving!
It always starts OK but then progressively dims slowly until after about 1.5-2 hours it starts to blink on and off with the off periods becoming longer & longer...
Sounds like something is breaking down after a while or when it gets hot - resistor maybe?
Would like to know what causes this and how it can be fixed if anyone here has trodden this path before?
