When it is 01/28/12 we surely do but if it is like 02/05/12 or something similar it gets confusing very fast when several formats are used.

For me it makes sense when you either go from smallest unit to biggest or from biggest to smallest. So YY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YY is fine but MM/DD/YY seems illogical to me.
