Thanks guys. I agree, I think the damage could be removed permanently by an appropriately skilled professional. I just don't have the faith that this dealer has one on tap and even if they did, it's hassle - that I can't be bothered with - they're 2hrs 15mins away from me and I won't be sure that the car is 100% until at least a week after signing up and taking delivery.
Additionally, because the paintwork was so bad, I focused purely on the exterior of the car and merely glanced at the interior so, given the front bumper was perfect and the bonnet has had some "work" near the leading edge (that the valeters could see) I'm a little suspicious it's possibly had a knock. Noting serious but still...looks like it may of had a new bumper or been repainted - which could be for perfectly legitimate reasons.
How has the original keeper treated the car if he/she seemingly didn't give a crap about the paint? How has he / she driven it from new in the wear-in stage? Not that I think there is much of a wear-in stage on the 8 - but still!
The scratches where not only long - but they were wide - they're not the type where you need to look down type panel to see them - or turn a fluorescent lamp to it or see it in sunlight - at one point, I was stood in front of the bonnet and the boot lid was all the way open and I could see all of the damage on the boot-lid from there! They were that bad!
I've also given a deposit on the Wayside car anyways - as they had confirmed interest on it - and that was the only 4.2 Tdi (Exec) around - then there's little to nothing coming through from Audi in the guise I want - "IT" makes a good point - he's right, they're few and far between.
So, I think they can keep it and it's not my problem how much money they've spent on it. Most of the interest on my D3 was around the tow-bar, so I'm certain if they advertise it with the bar, they'll shift it (after the paint is sorted).
Like I say, I do totally agree with you though - especially on the experience with the S4 - if the right guy / company does it - it'll likely be fine but I just don't trust them and I'll have to take it off them to prove that.
What a joke on the Supergard!? I'll bet you Supergard wouldn't be impressed! "We'll put the exterior stuff on and it can dry as you drive home??" FFS!!
They've already got a small history of lies to me already.
Onward with Wayside!
