I would not re-drill a flywheel. Some bolt holes will be pretty close to the originals, some will overlap. Don't underestimate the energy stored in a flywheel rotating at 6,000 rpm. If that lets go, you don't want to be in the same street, never mind being in the driving seat.

You are correct, my mistake. That said, I wouldn't fear the welding, it has been done on a number of ten-bolt cranks here with little issue. The insert would seem the better choice though, or simply the correct flyweel in the first place
