Belts is indeed a major expense that as a seller you'd want to avoid and as a buyer you'd want the seller to stump up for!

When were the belts last changed? Date/miles?

You're looking at about £450 in parts by the time you've done the serpentine belt, water pump, 'stat etc. If you can't do it yourself then expect the labour bill at dealer rates to be not far off the same again.

Any car with this mileage will be bought on condition above anything else - if it looks like it's done 150k then most people will walk away unless it's very cheap.

The seller can point out prices for other A8s till the cows come home, but if none have sold, or haven't sold for the asking price, then it's irrelevant.

I agree with sarg that at £2.5k it'd be worth viewing, but if he's firm on price it's not worth the effort of travelling as if you fall in love with it you'll end up paying more than you should. I got £2,250 off the asking price for mine when I bought it just by being cheeky/the only interested buyer
