The longer ratios in the TDI trans will not be favourable for the peaky nature of the S8 motor. You'll find yourself down shifting a lot to keep the high-revving AVP on cam.
The AVP won't make nearly enough low-down torque to make driving fun in dense traffic. The TDI trans would be better suited to an ABZ or 4,2 V8 40V (non S8). Or a turbocharged AVP.
