Ok, i can black cat that. On one ship I was in, there WAS a Weapons Engineering Mechanic (WEM) actually called Darling (of course i never knew his first name!). Shouting his name caused the expected laughter. This ship also had a Cook (a rank) Cook, Seaman (ditto) Seaman and Stoker called Stokes. Funny enough the Master at Arm wasnt called Bates.
