After 2 trouble free weeks and 200 miles, the creaking has returned. Checked fluid level, all ok.
One thing I have noticed, is that it creaks when turning the wheel even with the engine switched off and no fluid in circulation so I am back to thinking something with the suspension rather than PAS.
I popped the bonnet and tried to locate where the sound is coming from, but its impossible on your own.
