After much research into the error I found on the father in laws A8

01772 - Signal from Level Control Pressure Sensor (G291)
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent


and running VAGCOM whilst he was driving I managed to establish the compressor was struggling to run to the max pressure of around 15 bar.

The max pressure it could muster was 9 bar and it wouldn't hold that. Also there was a rattle from the front nearside that we couldn't trace despite replacing a number of suspension arms (its now quiet and we think the system wasn't pressurising sufficiently and it was the strut)

As most of you know the only alternative is to replace the compressor with a £1k replacement from Audi. I was trying to find spares for the WABCO compressor and stumbled on the following site.

This chap is manufacturing a replacement compression ring for the piston for the All-road but states it should fit the A8. Well I followed the link to his eBay shop and took the plunge.

Arrived in 3 days, managed to fit today in just 2 hours and the system now runs up to 15 bar and no more sensor error. He supplies the ring, a seal, cable ties and replacement set screws.

Just a note I have no affiliation with this fella but I'm happy spending around £35 as opposed to £1k.
