Sounds like tosh to me...especially given the lack of a logical explanation. If it helps, I've been running with a pair of Super Sports (front) with PS2's (rear) for both this summer (since June, I think) and last autumn before i swapped onto my 18" winter wheels. They've probably done around £5k miles, with no adverse effects - though they are, of course, performing better than the previous PS2's that I had on the front before.
