I put my directional spare (original Pilot Sport from when the car was new) on the car when it failed the MOT replacing the 'worst' tyre, which did result in it being on the wrong side. Picked up the replacement tyres the next day and did indeed ask them to swap the directional tyre so it was running the correct direction 
Now I've got a job again (yay!) I shall probably replace my remaining Pilot Sports for next summer irrespective of tread depth so I've got Super Sports all round and a known good decent non directional spare that's not 11 years old!
