And the answer is it's a push fit with lugs at each end that vaguely clip in. Levers out very easily with a small sharpish tool.
I ordered a replacement for mine from Germany, which arrived today. In order to protect it I thought about a topcoat of lacquer, from my "touch-up" kit.
But being a cautious soul, and the tiny little badge not being cheap, I thought I'd look carefully at the old one and try it out first, Good job I did!
It's a plastic moulding coated with "chrome". There are then two additional painted areas, red on the left side and "aluminium" on the right.
The red paint had worn badly, the aluminium just a little and was not really noticeable as it's over "chrome".
The red paint and shiny chrome seem to accept normal lacquer OK, though it doesn't adhere very well.
The dull "aluminium" paint however reacts with the lacquer and looks rather uneven and granular as a result.
So I've VERY CAREFULLY applied lacquer to JUST the red area of the new badge and will put it back on when I'm sure it's dried hard.
