The 4.2's have a filter cartridge in a housing so you don't get the same issue of the filter canister ripping, that said the housings can get tight. You can drive something like an old screwdriver through the canister type and use it like a t bar, but if it was that tight then probably just make a mess.

If it is crankshaft seals then its engine oil that’s leaking out, so should see a loss on the dipstick, if not then it’s likely to be output shaft seals. However it’s surprising how little oil can make it look a lot worse than it is. So you might not be able to tell from the dip. A good clean down and keep an eye on it might be best.
