I'll scan the HVAC for errors again over the weekend, and make a proper note of the error. That should reveal which motor is dead.
I got the D3 for a pretty good price, because I knew at the time it had some issues. Trouble is some were masked by a dying battery which was generating a load of fault codes across all modules. I'm 95% clear of faults, just a few lurking buried which don't appear to affect the basic functions of the car.
