Well however you feel it's not been a waste of time as we all have learnt a little bit.
Going back to your module, I think that you could possibly read the EPROMs of your working module, to burn the old one back to life and sell or keep as spare.
Might be worth asking a8 doc as I believe he might have equipment to do it.
