Regarding warranties, I think that generally the manufacturer backed new and approved used warranties are usually good for the job, it's one of the reasons I bought the M3 on the approved used scheme.

However, when they offered me the extension after 12 months I declined.

The main common issue with M3s is the throttle actuators, at about £1,200 per bank.

I would have had to taken their bells and whistles top level warranty to have that covered, and they wanted £1053 per annum (no excess) or £664 (£250 excess).

For that money, I'd rather take the risk, and put the £1053 into a savings account to self-insure.
