I've owned '8s for close to 10 years, and I still feel the same about them.
I've had my current late-D2 S8 for over 4 years and I had two 4.2 A8s before that.
I frequently get to drive lots of different cars, old and new, fast and slow. Everything from shopping trolley micro cars to brand new Range Rovers and Beamers. And, without exception, I'm always glad to get back in my S8 afterwards.
There are cars that are faster or more economical or that are more luxurious and comfortable even, but the '8s do all those things and they do them exceptionally well. There really is no better car for the money. If you want a big car that is luxurious, fast, comfortable and has astonishing grip and handling; something that you can drive in a sedate, relaxed manner that can also be driven hard and fast when the mood takes you .... there really is nothing else to choose from.
