Scott,
Congrats to you both on the nuptials.
Hope that you manage to sort it all out easily.
I had an incident once where a chap in a small van dived out of a side road from my right. I realised that thereb was an old lady in the pax seat so swerved to my left, caught the kerb and was pulled into a lamp post. Car badly damaged, the lamp post is still there, and the van drove off. Luckily a car travelling in the opposite direction had a quick thinking driver who pulled across and forced him to stop. Because traffic in both directions was blocked the police attended and sorted it all out for me.
The strange thing was he had the same insurance as a bloke that had driven into my back a few weeks earlier and they had already forked out for those repairs.
The hard part of all this apart from the inconvenience is that if the fault driver has an excess you have to beat it out of him unless you are insured for any and all excess charges.
It is an offence to leave the scene of a RTC(RTA in old money) without exchanging details. I think legally it becomes a "hit & run".
