Default WANTED - RHD steering rack

Hello forum,

sadly my new purchase needs a new steering rack, does anyone have one for sale. Contacted Prestige they are out of stock, AUTODOC only have LHD steering racks.

Mechanic visually inspected and could see wear in the rack.

Based in Woking Surrey, can travel a bit to collect.

thanks Marty

This is one of those hard to find parts that are specific to RHD cars, just like the windscreen wiper mechanism. Is yours not repairable?

That's right there are companies out there who can repair steering racks. Must be worth a try.

repair and recondition are very different. From my research "reconditioned" steering racks involves only changing the seals and consumables. My mechanic has told me its mechanically damaged you can see it in the teeth. I dont think that anyone could economically repair the rack, so i am looking so source a 2nd hand unit.

thanks Marty

Took the car to another garage for a second opinion, they suggested it could be the top strut mount due to the frequency of the knocking.

A new steering rack is quite a upheaval if its not the right move.

I plan on replacing the dampers, with the tophat and new spring rubbers. Replace the 4 control arms, each side. replace inner and outer tie rods and ARB link with bushing.

so complete front refresh, my hope is that it fixes the problem, if not I know the front is sorted.

I guess then its sourcing a second hand steering rack.

Replacing a steering rack is certainly non-trivial, pretty sure I still have the scars as evidence
