Default Folding Mirror Problem

SWMBO was very upset again when I arrived home this evening. Driver's door mirror is failing to fold.
Grabbed the notebook, connected the cable and found zero fault codes appertaining to mirror problems.
Then I became clever, went into the driver door control unit and ran the tests. Brilliant, everything worked as it should except for the folding. Tried giving the mirror a little bit of assistance, then a bit more help and finally both hands with all my strength. No help from the motor, only the manual movement from my muscles
I then tried the passenger door and everything, I mean everything worked spot on.
Did a quick search on this forum and all I could find were threads from a few years back. So does anybody have any more up to date suggestions?
My current plan is to leave it alone and see what happens when I shout a few rude words at it on Saturday after the mandatory shopping trip.

I had the identical issue with my 2004 A8L and the resolution to the problem was to replace the motors for the mirror. Two of them went bad within a few days of each other (left/right as well as up down) both went bad. I located a second hand mirror assembly which was of course in a different color than my car. i had the installer swap out the internals which was fairly straightforward and everything works correctly again. The cost was approximately $200.00 USD for the used part and about the same for labor as it requires removal of the inside door panel to gain access to the mirror wiring.

A new mirror from Audi is prohibitively expensive!
