I am thinking of installing a playstation 3 into my car so i can play games and watch blue-ray films. i already have a spare video and audio input from my rear seat entertainment. the question is how do i power it ? is an inverter the best way or can i buy a 12 volt supply for one ? also will the joypads work ok as they are wireless bluetooth ?

The joypads will work fine. The thing that would concern me is getting enough ventliation. PS3 are notorious for the YLOD (yellow light of death) which is thought to be a heat related condition combined with the lead free solder used in construction. I would guess an inverter would be the way to go for power.

ive been told its very difficult getting enough wattage from the 12v......
if you can cure this issue the ventilation is easy...... i too would like to do this, but have been told you cant power them as they are so power hungry. |

some models are 250W, some 280W so 400w inverter should be plenty

Do you have HDMI in? I'm way out of touch with a PS2 slim then. I would have put the install on here but it consisted of throwing the PS2 in the glove box and taking all the cables to the back where the inverter lives on the floor plugged into the rear cig socket, 7” screen on the headrest (couldn’t get it to both screens) Job done.

There is an analogue video output too from the PS3 and Sony give you the cable for that one, but not the HDMI!
