Track Rod End - Premature Failure
Have I been unlucky or is there something else that would cause failure?
Couple of months before Christmas I had a TRE go - properly knackered - so trotted off to Euro CP and got 2 more - put them on, got the tracking done - lovely. Just been to get the tracking and balancing looked over - precautionary since putting the 18" wheels on, and guess what - Mechanic calls me in and says -both track rod ends have gone' and showed me the wheel wobble. Can't really say I had noticed, other than a slight wander when I brake hard, but had mentally put that down to the lower profile tyres wandering a bit in ruts - anyway they are done - so will be getting replacements from ECP - just wondered what if anything other than crap parts / bad batch might make them fail.. |

If they are not OEM then they maybe Meyle. Meyle get regular bashing on Audiworld but they do do a heavy duty version use the parts finder here .
Either order the HD version or try and find Bilsteins offering as they get good chuckups on Audiwold. I can get the bilsteins when I am at home if you get stuck. just looked on Euro again, there is a cheap and more expensive option.. (LemForder being the more expensive). Maybe I will not be a cheap wad and get the more expensive ones, not that price should really affect short term reliability!
I don't know the make of the ones I got - will check it out when I get the replacements. That Meyle site is great though! Thanks mate |

Had the same thing with mine.. Garage had fitted TruckTec which seemed to have a resonable name, but both went within about 10k miles.
Do you have 'speed cushions' near your house? Having had a chat with my cousin who has them in their estate, they cause track rod ends to go quickly as people ride over the cushion with wheels either side rather than over the top so pushing the tops of the wheels in and causing wear on the ends (or so his mechanic claims). |

Got some QH ones from local car parts bloke - see how they fair! (he said that Euro carparts were starting to get a bad name quality wise as several people had been in with other steering and suspension failures from new parts)
In fact QH are now etching 'QH' onto their parts, as so many people keep selling spurious stuff and trying to pass it as QH! |
