Default Dvb-t picture quality.

Can anyone shed some light on why my picture is very pale on the screen? I'm not sure yet if it's an aerial issue and as per my other thread I've a S/H replacement turning up for that, one other thing I can think of is maybe give the most connections a clean with some isopropanol and make sure their spotless, does anybody know what controls the picture? As normal the screen is vibrant, it's a bit hit and miss when on TV and this is what makes me believe it's a signal thing but then it's a digital signal so kind of scratching my head

Is it a pal / ntsc signal issue, I have never had need to go looking but have you tried pushing setup when in the TV mode to see what can be adjusted

My own car is mugging me off out it on this morning and it looked fine, I took a picture and it was a lot better.

But as I type this it's as if there is a white balance issue, as bright parts of the screen get washed out, messing with picture settings is getting a bit better but still doesn't seem right, I might just be being really fussy

Looks like it's gone back to how it was, fingers crossed it's not internal, and it is just a signal issue.

The actual picture is an analogue connection between the TV Tuner and the MMI control head, I don't think a signal issue would cause that. A signal issue would just cause breakup of the image or no reception at all. DVB-T is either on or off, the picture should remain the same. You could check the connections on the Tuner in the boot, it wont the be fibre or power connections but the single connection on its own that is the video out.

Aah! That's just the info I needed thanks, I got the unit dirt cheap as the plastic surround for the fakra connection which I guess is the video out is missing, as my first post, I was struggling why it might be a signal issue with it being digital as you rightly say, I didn't know how it converted the signal to the mmi screen, hopefully it's just the connection and not the video processor in the dvb-t unit playing silly buggers as whilst I'm sitting here watching TV the picture is going from bad to good.

Ive got a PCB fakra connection for the unit to replace the broken one but never replaced it straight away as the unit had rightly been tamper sealed from the seller and I wanted to give the unit a good test before breaking the seals.

I agree with Manyo.
I have been on an errand locally and tried the TV in motion. Worked really well, great picture and reception is good.
No signal outside our house but that is due to the old mill at the back. As soon as we are forty yards away in comes the TV.

Burnzey, I hope that replacing the Fakra resolves your problem.

I also agree with Manny. If it were a reception issue the picture would break up and the TV would display an orange icon in the top right corner, I think with an black X. What is the picture quality like when you try to read EPG info? Still the same? Then it certainly is the FBAS (Farb-Bild-Austast-Synchron-Signal or in English CVBS, Colour-Video-Blanking-Sync) connection to the control head. However, do play with the contrast & colour settings etc, etc.

I've found the TV to give pretty good results. This was when it bucketed down so I took refuge watching Scrapheap Challenge

Thanks guys, when on the EPG info it's crystal, as is the rest of the time I'm using the MMI it's just the actual channel picture that's iffy, it looks like it may be a processor issue then, I know only 1 of my aerials is working so I'll replace the antenna amplifier and see if it improves things, because it generally uses more than one aerial by what's written on the internet maybe that is causing problems as only one is working wait and see I guess.

Edit: oh and mine has never been as crystal as yours Matt
