Default Motorist becomes first person to be convicted of 'hogging' the middle lane.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...lane-free.html

Hopefully this news might serve to educate some of those people who don't seem to understand how to properly use the lanes.

I'm not sure lane-hogging needed to be specifically defined in law though; if you're hogging the middle lane you're either displaying a lack of courtesy towards other road users or driving without due care and attention.

I think the whole lane thing is stupid, cars going from lane to lane to avoid trucks slower moving cars etc is more of a risk, if everybody did what the highway code said and kept going back to the left lane there would be more accidents.

A three lane motorway should be left lane for vehicles restricted to 60, and they shouldn't be allowed to overtake at 0.01 mph, middle lane for everyone else, and right lane to overtake.

In that system charge people for hogging the overtaking lane.

And all of that above aside have you seen the state of the left lane on most roads, next time its raining have a look at it, the surface of the road is so worn that its basically a puddle waiting for somebody to aquaplane off the road into a fireball.

Are you a middle lane hogger by chance

That's ok if all vehicles can do those speeds, but what if a truck restricted to 60 comes up behind a steam engine and can't overtake?

I Have to agree ! nothing worse than someone doing 68.5mph in lane 3 when we clearly want to do 70mph

Of course they can over take if the vehicle is considerably slower, but it should be a serious fine for any truck or bus caught in the middle lane or overtaking lane crawling past because their truck is a fraction quicker on the governor.

And no i don't hog the middle lane you will find me in the outside lane

Lane one is not so bad. Its often a newer surface than the other lanes, and, best of all, when the rest are chokka, it's empty.
Lane one - my very own personal road

I still have a PCV and have the legal right to drive full size coaches and buses. That is single and double deckers up to 13.5 metres in length. It is known as a "D" license. There is also a "D1" license that allows one to drive minibuses up to 8 passengers.
The law at the moment allows 8 pax minibuses to drive in the third lane (fourth on four lane sections) but does not allow larger buses to do this.
Speed limits are a bit of a strange beast because we are supposedly governed by European Law and as such my bus should be governed at 62mph(100k/h) and I am legally allowed to do this on UK motorways, but British law states I am limited to 60mph on the same roads.
Trucks are limited to 60mph in UK but most companies limit their vehicles to about 67 or less to save fuel costs.
There is a lot of frustration when driving in the UK, as reported earlier in this thread, and as things stand we must learn a little more tolerance. Does it matter that your three hundred mile journey takes ten or twenty minutes longer because the vehicle in front is a little bit slower than you?
I always remind myself that there is always someone behind me that wants to drive a bit faster. Just as when driving a bus there are 70 odd people sat behind me that think they know the job better than me, but after all they are paying good money to sit and watch me perform.

My rant over, I want a 50Thousand Megawatt Laser Ray Gun on the front of my bus.

I'm sure i can drive one of those if i take all the seats out.

Ray, i think that's what Del is saying, if it don't really matter that it puts 10 mins on your journey you have no need to overtake the lorry in front doing 60 when you're limited to 62.

That said however you're not allowed in the 3rd lane so can't see it makes much difference.

The other issue is of course while towing your engine to generate the power for your Laser Ray Gun you're going to struggle up hill (and you're going to be down a bit on the 50K MW)

I have said this before "I love this Forum".
The wit flies so well. The thing I miss most from my military life is the banter. I am really enjoying all your company.
Regards the big laser gun thingy, I am currently trying to design a "super silent gauranteed extremely noisy oscillating transistor generator box" that will be pocket size to drive the brilliantly efficient vehicle destroyer. The weapon will also have a cyclist target capability.
As for speed cameras, traffic wardens and police . . . .
