Default Audi S8 D2 2002 for sale 90,000mls

Hi guy's
I have decided to let my S8 go. The whole NLA thing is getting to a point now where I am no longer enjoying my ownership.

I've been preparing the add over the last couple of weeks so apologies if it seems a little "cut and paste" as I've been doing it on my pc. Also I think I will have to spread the pictures over a couple of posts.

Car is based in Leeds and any inspection, test drive, obd scan is welcome.

So, here goes.
Audi S8 D2 (2002)

Currently just under 90,000mls

Service history to 80,000 but that last service was over 8yrs ago so I'd take it with a pinch of salt. That's what I did when I bought the car. I've serviced it myself for the last 7 years with at the very minimum oil and filter changes every 6 months.

Over 10k spent in repairs over that same period. All of the usual faults sorted.

I'm selling purely because it's getting too difficult and frustrating to find parts for these cars. I keep my cars in tip top condition and that's getting harder and harder to do. Also more expensive to do.

The spec of the car is pretty standard with only the heated windscreen setting it apart. Unfortunately these are no longer available. I was forced to get the windscreen replaced a couple of years ago due to a rather bizarre crack that appeared whilst the car was stood over the winter. Although it was a particularly frosty morning. The heated screen was working up until that point but unfortunately no longer.

May 2017 alloy wheels refurbed and new Michelin PS2 tires. Brand new (never used) alloy sourced as spare with new Michelin tire.

May 2017 gearbox output flange oil seal and drive flange replaced with genuine units. These are well known for leaking (£500).

April 2018 new chain tensioner units fit. Not just the plastic guides but the whole units with genuine parts (£1800).

May 2018 timing belt, camshaft seals, valley gasket, oil retention valves, engine oil cooler seal and plastic pipe replaced, new genuine pcv valve, new regulator and brushes in the alternator, new front engine mount (snub mount) (all in all about £800).

June 2019 rear diff seals

Augus 2019 Gearbox front lower valve body replaced with a brand new unit with all brand new internals. This was put together for me by Natt Wentworth from Erickson industries in the US and shipped over. I replaced this as a preventative measure as this valve block and its internal pressure regulator valve are believed to be responsible for the blown A clutch problem that can plague these cars. The body and the valve wear and stick causing pressure spikes. This has a brand new body (now getting hard to find) and a brand new updated valve. All parts used are genuine ZF. I also flushed approx 20Ltr of genuine transmission fluid through the system at the same time (£800).

June 2020 suspension re-build. Both fromt bearing carriers replace with brand new genuine units. Rear bearing carriers re-furbished with all new bushes. Genuine parts used where still available. All 4 wheel bearings replaced with SKF units. 2 new rear brake calipers. All flex break hoses replaced. 4 wheel alignment done at Audi independent (£2k aprox).

March 2021 fuel filter replaced

May 2022 new (none genuine) windscreen.

May 2022 all injectors replaced with brand new genuine units. Simply done as a preventative measure (£500).

June 2024 Brand new genuine inlet manifold fitted (£1700).

June 2024 new spark plugs.

There are 3 small issues with the car that potential buyers need to be aware of. The driver heated seat doesn't work. I've not really investigated this too much as my priority has always been to get the car mechanically sound. I do suspect heating elements will be no longer available though.

The sat nav screen will go fuzzy in certain positions. It's a very common fault but if you leave it alone and don't charge the angle of the screen it works perfectly.

There is a small scratch on the neer side front wing. It's been there through out my ownership but never been a priority for me as I was trying to keep the paintwork as original as possible. Luckily there is no lacquer peel at all on the car.

I have a brand new genuine boot antenna but I don't fit this generally as they get nicked. Obviously it will come with the car. Also, I don't know if any of you have noticed but the aluminium wing mirror covers are missing. I took these off to keep them safe. Crack heads will nick these if you ever leave the car unattended. They will come with the car or I can refit them in 30min.

As you will see from the Mot and mileage history I'm the kid of guy that enjoys working on his car rather than driving it. Even though some of the repairs go back 5 or 6 years, the car has done very little mileage in that time.

Price is £6k. A very reasonable price I think given all the work that has been done. If she has to go on the evil bay I will be putting her up for £7.5k. I would much rather she go to an enthusiast / form member though.

I'm hoping the pictures and this description gives you all the info you need but it's quite possible I forgot something. Maybe even something fundamental. Let me know if I have and be gentle please, this is already painful enough.

Although it can be seen in the images, it's worth noting in the description that it has rear heated seats. My S8 Final Edition doesn't have them and it's a nice extra.

The heated seat padding for the base and the rear of the front seat have separate heating elements so it's unlikely that they've both failed. My guess is that it's something else in the circuit. The base padding with heating element is actually still available at an eye-watering fee should anyone be interested.

I did notice something else in the photos that I'll PM you about.

GLWS I think that £6k for a 90k mile FL2 S8 is rather reasonable.

Thanks for the heads up Dean. I honestly thought heated rear seats were standard equipment on an S8.

And just to confirm, they do work.

Thanks Frank

Showing my ignorance here.... What's the small square grey panel for in the storage tray between the front seats? (to the rear of the drinks holder)

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Looks just like a very cheap looking screw cover to me. Not really looked at it that closely really. Do you guys have something different in that position?
