Impromptu test drive in D3 4.2TDI
Popped into the local Audi dealer to try an A5 coupe out for size. Been thinking of where to go if I decide to move from my S8.
Sat in the A5, pretty disappointing to be honest, not a patch on my 8. Realised that if I'm going to sit a car for hours on end, its got to be special. Saw a D3 4.2TDI on the forecourt, 07, 32k miles, Space Grey metallic on 5 spoke 19's, so asked to try that out for size. Got in and immediately thought this is more like it. It was missing the extended leather I love in my car, but its still beautiful. Quite a bit more room in their too. Went for a quick run in the car, wow, that's what you call torquey. Its every bit as quick as the S, only more effortless. The engine is far too muted for my liking, but the overall performance is awesome. So left there with a dilemma, I dearly love my S8, in fact I don't know why I was looking at the D3, but I did and its lovely. Even the price hasn't entirely put me off, £25k. Its a big commitment thus will need some thought. Hmm.........

And you think it's good in standard trim
 You can stick an extra 40+ horses and a chunk of torque in there for not a lot of money.

I spent more than that on my D3, and after a year of chauffeuring in it, I don't regret it one bit.
I would in fact buy it again, for the price I paid, all over again tomorrow if I needed too  It is the only car I have ever owned, that I will 100% buy another one once mine is a few years old. Nice to hear others enjoying the D3's
