Default AA reckon an 8 showing 118 coolant temp is 'normal'

& refused to recover my car. It was idling at 105 and when the AA guy took it for a spin it hit 118. No matter what I said to him that Audi say the right temp is between 80-105 and it never went over 90 on my other S8 nor this till recently he said every cars different so whilst 90 might have been what the guage sat at on my old car this one it would sit at 110. The car was quickly creeping to 120 so I got it parked up and then told Ben off him
Sorry Ben for calling so late but the AA guy was just baffled by everything Ben told him and reluctantly agreed to recover the car. The guy said you learn something new everyday but come on all that hassle and fobbing off. Lucky Ben picked up or the AA guy would pulled my trousers down and left me for dead!

Could be a multitude of things mate

You sure your gauge is reading correctly? Just a thought.

Anyway, I'm sure Ben will sort it whatever the problem turns out to be

It's getting the works. Service,Cambelt, water pump, thermostat and a four wheel alignment. My bet is waterpump or thermostat but AA guy said my thermostat and radiator and gauge are fine. Then again he showed how little he knew last night. I'm going to write a letter of complaint as the more I think about it the more it annoys me. I pay them something crazy a month too looking through statements.
Oh, and now they are late with their flatbed but they did call me to tell me that in fairness

It does but the cooling system is more than capable of cooling an LPG engine. If the thermostat sticks open and your travelling quickly you'll see taht the temp wont even reach 80!

Truely ridiculous.
I was horrified when the AA on the phone at 10last night thought that "it's fine at 120degrees, there's no fault code so it must be ok, we do a lot of these ya know and it's normal"
He had a short lesson........
Just replicates the ridiculous situation we had with Tonupkid's S8 (his old one) when they were trying to get it going on EasyStart and blew his inlet off!!

Car running spot on now so all good mate.

I shall be in touch with AA soon, they will incur my displeasure!

Thanks Ben, just arrived in London and the car didn't miss a beat. Looking forward to the return trip now

Edit: It was the thermostat by the way, the AA guy told me the thermostat was in perfect working order. In the end he said the only thing it could be is a blockage in the radiator. Waterpump was on it's way out too so glad it's all sorted.

In general up to 120C is OK, but not in this kind of weather, something must be wrong and I would be worried if mine hit 120C. If it hits 120C in winter then clearly there is a problem with coolant flow be it water pump or thermostat and if there is no flow it might very well be over 120C in other parts of engine because the hottest coolant does not reach temp sensor. I hot summer day 35C+ stuck in traffic or something like that up to 120C would be OK as long as it is not pushing coolant out through the cap
