A couple of weeks ago I had some suspension arms replaced on my D2 A8 QS, which included a basic wheel alignment after the work was completed.
Not happy with this basic alignment, I took it along to a garage I have used many times in the past and had a full 4 Wheel alignment done on a Hunter style Corgi machine. The front was way out, but the back end was also slightly out. I don't have the printout sadly of the before and after as their printer was broken. I dont know if it was doing this before, but it seems when driving at slow speed (for example round a small roundabout) I am sure the front tyres sound like they are for want of a better description scrubbing the road and I get some vibration through the car at the same time. When driving in a straight line the car runs dead straight if you let go of the steering wheel. The tyres are worn on the inside edge, and will be changed soon, this was as a result of the worn components now replaced. Anyone experienced this or similar.

I've had the same on mine and others have said this is normal.
On my old car when you had front toe-in (as the book spec for the A8 is) you would get 'scrabble'. With 0 toe or toe-out it was better. Most OEM's set the alignment for good tyre wear and normally for understeer (what is probably causing the scrabbling). I intend having a play with the settings in the near future as 0 front and 1-2 out at the rear was a great handling setup on my old car giving a tend to oversteer. A lot depends on your driving style and trial and error though. I do my full alignment with fishing line and axle stands. I need to find out the front/rear track widths of the 8 to do this. John |
