Default rnse install to prefacelift

Hi guys have just bought an rnse and I would like to fit it to my prefacelift a8. Was wondering is it possible to get the rnse to communicate with the instrument cluster. Or could someone give me a list of the things I would need please.

Thanks for your help.

I very much doubt you'll get it working with the cluster as I beleive the RNSE uses CAN-bus which wasn't available in the PF (though I could be wrong).

You obviously need the dual-din cage for it, but everything else should just connect back up, you will need to tell it what kind of car it's in using VCDS. And not sure if you'll be able to comminucate with it if it needs CAN-Bus.

If the PF is a lot like a B5 in terms of connectivity, there was a group buy going on AudiSRS for a plug in box that would emulate the necessary can-bus side of things, I believe.

Worth a bit of a search on there anyway, just to establish whether it might work for you.

Personally, I would love a unit I could plug in that reinstated the turn by turn directions in the DIS that you lose when going to RNS-E, plus makes MP3 track names scroll through rather than just showing the 1st few characters that tells you nothing!

In short, no, I dont think its possible. Preface didnt have canbus, which causes the RNS-E issues like not knowing the ignition is on, so it keeps turning off etc (can be fudged though), but it also would normally use the infotainment canbus to talk to the DIS - Preface was a different standard, 3LB or something springs to mind, anyway, chances of success are virtually nill.

I had an RNS-E in a pre face S8, but the instrument cluster had been changed for a facelift one - That, believe it or not isnt actually that hard. The majority of cables are a straight 1 to 1, and then the instrument cluster generates the canbus signals that are needed for the RNS-E, and I think it solves the problem with the FL climate module not working in a PF car too.

The only issue if I recall is that the oil level sensor is a Facelift thing, and without an input, the DIS of the facelift cluster permanently displays a warning symbol, but this can be fudged to go away.....
