Default Hee hee: caught you out!

Had the 'new' S8 back into A4 Audi again yesterday for a couple of niggles. I'd had the wheel alignment done a couple of weeks ago as James had recommended this after he'd put the standard suspension back on before I bought the car.

But it just didn't feel right and the steering wheel wasn't straight, so back it went. Andy sheepishly admitted that their alignment machine wasn't working on the day I'd taken the car in previously, so they'd taken it to Kwik Fit.

Yesterday, they'd checked it out on their own kit and it was miles out! KF had done a total bodge. It feels loads better now. As compensation, I also had headlight alignment checked, diagnostics for the gearbox and a possible misfire (negative), a 'rumble' between 50-70mph looked into (they'd done 23 miles to check that out - someone likes the car!) and no bill!

They sound like basically good guys there but I do think they should have told you about their alignment machine not working and asked if you were ok with them taking your car to Kwik Fit
good on 'em for not charging you though although I guess you had already been charged for the original alignment?

I went to quickfit 20 odd years ago when they advertised Oil & Filter for any car under 3.0 litres for only £4.99.

Wasn't rich then so off I go with my 2.8 Isuzu Trooper.

Oil & filter please says I.

OK put it on the ramp. Did that and spotty youth drops oil and removes filter.

Ages later with not a lot happening the Manager comes over and says we can't 'do' my car as he doesn't have a filter and it will cost £15 from the Isuzu Dealer.

Yep, I know that, that's why I'm here!

You don't understand sir, I don't have a filter in stock.

Get one says I, and pointed out their Ad in the papers.

Ping pong for a while.

Ended up with old filter back on and a refill of oil and he wanted paid!

I didn't pay and had to call a couple of mates to help get the car 'released'. No mobile phones then either!

I complained to their HQ but got nowhere.

That scenarion would be a bit different nowadays but I've never been back to them or any of their Group Companies and never will.

Hmmm... sound like I'm in a minority of one. My local Kwik Fit is trusted with all the tyre, exhaust, MOT and related work on all our cars, including the S8 and the Fiat Coupe. They're always competitive, thorough, and often don't charge me for stuff - e.g. stripping my 20FE wheels and tyres and fitting the 18 inch ones instead (not bought from them....). Maybe I'm just lucky
