Default All interiors lights

Hi There,

All the interior lights seem to have stopped working. The two main cabin (front/rear). The map lights on the mirrors. The door puddle lights and the visor lights....Its iritating more than an actual prob.

Main beams/sides etc are fine. Boot light ok.

Checked the footwell fuse box but it seems it would be more than 1 fuse and any i visualy checked seemed fine. Nothing wrong with the boot set of fuses.

Any ideas...seems a lot to go out....I did have it happen a while back and then someone got out and they worked again, which was odd.

cya,
Lee

do the lights work manually when you switch them on? sounds like the door sensors/switches are not registering that the door has opened rather than the lights themselves not working?

Hi there,

Nope the switch doesn't work either, nor the opening of the visor etc. Oddly the mirrors didn't want to fold either, however the left one reverses and they'll both adjust.

I think i have a gremlin

Hi There,

You may have something regarding the door switches....When the car is running and you open a door, you get a little graphic....If i open any door but the drivers, then it shows 3 doors open (rears + passenger) if i open mine then i get a 4 door icon.....Is that normal ???

Where are the door switches ???

Ta,
Lee

Hi There,

Resurecting an old thread as it is something i've still not fixed yet as it is only an irritation rather than a true problem.

Anyway to add to the symptoms/story. The other day i noticed in my rear mirror one of the lights in the rear was on while driving. I stopped at the next garage and had a fiddle and all of the lights worked fine....It was just i had accidentaly left a rear one manualy turned on. I checked them all and they were fine (well apart from the drivers map light, probably a dead bulb).

I got out and was going to fill up, but the LPG was out of order, so i got back in and drove to my hotel.

Turned the car off when i got there, the lights came up and it felt real s****y. Locked the car. Checked in and grabbed the key. Went back to the car to drive it to the car park and the light had stopped working again !!!

So....I don't think its the door sensors as the only door played with was mine and i got in and out and the light still worked. The only difference between the two stops was locking the car.....Could it be something to do with the central locking ????

thanks,
Lee

Hi There,

More wierdness.....It seems, if i leave a light switched on (map light) when i lock the car all the lights go off as normal. When i unlock the car after a minute or so the lights are still off. Start the ignition and the lights spring into action and work fine until the car is locked and left for a brief period of time (1min+)

If i don't leave a map light on, and start the car the light stay off as normal !

Its looking like there is some form of ignition overide feature, which explains why a couple of weeks ago things started working. I gave a lift to a couple of friends at night and they tried the lights in the back (the red illumination is idependant) to plug the seat belts in.

Has anyone got any idea whats causing it as it now does not appear to be a loose connection as it is entirely repeatable.

Ok....Getting to the annoying point. Mainly when i give lifts to people.

I've found that leaving a switch on (main overhead, or any other) ....*SOMETIMES* the lights come on when the ignition is turned on.

When the lights are working, locking the car and the lights stop. Don't lock the car and they will work again, even getting out and back in or leaving it for an hour or two. Leave a light on and the light stays on, but locking the car and unlocking and they still work.

Interestingly i had to use the key for a few days due to a dead remote battery and the same thing happens. I do however think it is alarm/locking related.

So, i don't believe it is a wireing problem, but something to do with the locking/remote side.

Any way to check. What controls all this. I don't seem to have an VAG faults. Is there any settings to check there etc ? Can i turn the lights on test wise with VAGCOM ???

Thanks,
Lee

Sounds to me as if it is logic related as opposed to hardware. I don't have my 8 atm so I can't attach VCDS and play. When the RAC finally agree to send it back from Germany I'll have a fiddle and see if I can find anything.

Does the interior light system have an 'ECU' or is it just dumb wiring with switches (and a timer).
