Default Clock & date LCD Repair?

I'm getting really sick and tired of my clock/date LCD panel fading out when it's hot outside. And as far as i have seen ether A4 or A6 share this problem with the A8 D2's. So i was wondering if it's possible to replace the A8 LCD panel with a A4/A6 LCD?

Mine is the same, date and time fade away in the heat. I have kind of got used to it and ignore the display, although sometimes its possible to make out things like minutes past an hour.

My mileage, and trip display is now suffering from another fault which will I am sure render that useless as well eventually and at that point I'll probably replace the cluster.

LCDs fade with time.

Cluster should be on the table to change LCDs.

You can buy temporary cluster off ebay (it should have same part number), code it for your car and drive while your cluster gets repaired. That's extra £100. Custer is easy to remove. Just trow a towel on steering column to avoid scratching it.

Ok, if one of you guys have a spare cluster i can "hire" for the time i it takes to repair mine i would been interested :P

How much have you payed for the previous repairs to your D2 clusters?

Or is it possible to change to a S8 cluster? Se it's a couple of S8 FL clusters for sale on ebay atm.

There are lots of clusters representing different eras of A8 evolution. You need the one with the same part number. If part number is different you should understand what you are doing. I don't have spare cluster at the moment. What I can suggest is to remove your cluster, read part number from sticker on the back, put it back, source temporary off eBay, code it with same coding number... well, you've got the idea

Yeah i understand that. But i can't see any reason why a cluster from a early D2 FL shouldn't fit on a late D2 FL car. Or vice versa. I'm a trained car mechanic so i have a decent understanding of how the different components work and communicate. So if all the other control unit's are the same in say a 2000 D2 FL and a 2002 D2 FL i don't see why it shouldn't work, give that it's coded the right way.

But ey, I've been proven wrong before. mehe

One difference between early and late facelifts is that there was transitioning from dedicated wires to can bus signals.
