Default E10 95 grade petrol in france

my local garage here in france has stopped selling 98 octane petrol , and now has a choice of 95 octane or 95E10 [ 10% alcohol ]

did a bit of googling about audi engines , and with a couple of exceptions anything since 1985 should run correctly on this

so tried some in my 5cyl 20v , ran ok but after a few days not used it was almost impossible to start ; once warmed up seemed ok , left a few more days ...same problem ...ran battery flat , had to recharge before it finally got going

question is , what about my 3.7 A8 ...has anyone tried this particular fuel ?
it is about 10% cheaper than pure petrol here

An E.U directive IIRC insists that petrol has a % (up to 10%) of ethynol in and as far as I am aware no petrol Audis are designed to run on it.

in that case why does the list in the link you provide show that 99% of audi's since 1992 are ok on E10 ?

Reading between the lines on the manual for my S8 when I first got it, it implied that it would run on pretty much anything except diesel albeit with "reduced" performance.

I think the worst I've put in it was about 89 octane and it was fine.

The ethanol thing is mostly about seals etc. that may fail when exposed to the mixture.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
