bulb recommendations

Not strictly Audi related, but looking to replace H7 bulbs in my sons car with something a bit brighter and wondering if anybody has any recommendations on a particular brand, just looking to do a straight (legal) swap, not a conversion

Bosch Pure Light, £22 a pair

Available in Halfords, Bosch's Pure Light standard replacement H7s don't make any promises about extra light.

However, that's exactly what they deliver on dipped beam; a remarkable score of 141 puts Bosch way ahead of the next brightest halogen bulb – the Philips X-treme Power, which scores 102.

The Bosch bulbs are less effective on main beam. A score of 55 means they can’t quite match the other upgrade bulbs here, but they’re still an improvement on the original Vauxhall bulbs and their competitive pricing means we have no hesitation in recommending them as a Which? Best Buy.

Osram Night Breaker +90%, £16 a pair

A popular upgrade bulb, the Osram Night Breakers achieved a solid four stars in both dipped beam and main beam categories.

They were significantly brighter than the OE bulbs fitted to the Astra, but fell slightly short of the more expensive Philips X-treme Power overall, despite Osram's claim of 90% extra brightness versus the 80% claimed for the Philips.

However, a price difference of around £10 means the Osram bulbs represent better value for money, which was the deciding factor in making them a Which? Best Buy.

The Night Breakers weren't as impressive as the Bosch Pure Light bulbs on dipped beam, but were the second-best halogen bulbs on main beam.
