Default grumble from the car...

Not used the D2 for a while and nipped out in it to pick up my lad.
After 5 minutes I could hear a whirring noise from around behind the stereo or passenger area.
At tickover it was very deep. As the revs rise it gets higher pitched.
At a set of lights, don't know why, but I kept my left foot on the brake (still in gear) and revved the engine.
I heard a noise like a chain getting back on its track then the noise stopped. Was ok for the remainder of the journey.

Any idea as to what it could be?

Oil taking it's time to lubricate the lifters at the back? Has it sat for a bit?

Cheers but wasn't that.
Its was back again very quickly so going to take the front off of the car to see if I can pinpoint it - definately sounds mechanical..

Oh.

I'm not sure what there is at the back of the engine. Just trying to think what might give a intermittent noise. Would a belt roller be continuous? Aircon pump maybe?
