Default A8 Car insurance time

Got my renewal notice through from Bell, they wanted £400 for the next 12 months. Quick bit of online searching and Admiral, which is part of the same group came in at £295 for the same cover with Business mileage added.

So called Bell, and after speaking to the renewals team in Canada they have beaten the admiral quote and lopped 35% off the originally quoted premium and added the business use.

So, I have continued cover with Bell with Business use added and its costing me £130 less than the original renewal quote. Just goes to show it pays to look around at renewal, which with the number of auto renewing policies these days I wonder how many actually bother.

Mine's due next week - having a nightmare on quotes for both s8 and a6 and can't get below £1k for the 2 despite 9 & 6 yrs no claims bonus and clean licenses. Claim for s8 mirror theft not helping....

Admiral/Elephant/Bell have been the same with me for the last 6 years Renewal comes in, speak to the meerkat or the fat bloke, and one of the three is always cheaper, quick call and they price match

Average saving, over 100 quid, best was 300 one year

Still with Direct line for a fair few years now, though I actually arrived there initially via a quote from Privilege (who are just a DL "brand").
Oddly DL wouldn't quote at first but P would, but I ended up with DL paperwork anyway...

Best deal I got one year was a price match against themselves; not sure how, but I got an online quote from them that was significantly better than their own renewal!

It's a funny game, I used to have breakdown cover on the main policy (provided by Green Flag, another DL company!) but found it was much cheaper buying direct from Green Flag.
Next year it will probably be cheaper to roll it back in.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

That's who we were with previous year when we had the claim, hence why they expire together

They're within 15 quid of each other - need to spend some time on it on Saturday to see what I can do

Was hoping the s8 could go on a modern classic policy now it's 10 years old but nobody wants to entertain covering it on that basis

Mind you, it still came to £1800 in total, but that included two 22 year olds as first time drivers on fairly new cars....

I do not even keep track who were my last but it was about twice what I paid last year so I got new quote and called old insurer to cancel, they dropped price a bit but not enough. I think I paid about £600 last year, they wanted £1100 for renewal, shopped around, found a price for £380, called to cancel, they dropped to £500 but that was not enough so I ditched them.

I just renewed recently with Swiftcover. First quote was £182 so took my missus off - she has a claim for £1k about a year ago and an SP30 for speeding - 'I never saw the signs, I was busy talking on the phone'.

That put it up £30 odd..... and she WILL NEVER DRIVE IT

Accepted the first offer.

Sometimes age is an advantage......
