Default Here we go again.

It's MOT time again. Car picked up by my local Independent. Hopefully she will sail through as she did last year. Fingers crossed everyone

Mine is in for its MOT in the next week too. The down-side of buying a car at Christmas..... Will have to put 2 new front tyres on too as the are down to 2mm, and already, roundabouts are interesting when it is a little damp. 4mm on ther rears, so they can wait.

Replace all 4 if funds allow and sell the good old ones from the rear. Or another option is to get a second hand pair for the front that matches rear tyres. You don't want rear tyres considerably worse then fronts specially in winter months.

Agreed, but I'd rotate, move the rears to the front and new ones on the rear

I am doing a bit of shopping around to see if I can afford 4 new ones. I thought that the 4wd ate the fronts more, that was why I was thinking of putting the new ones on the front.

I have found that if I buy the tyres online, I can save a good amount and it may be worth pushing for a full set as I have gone for a different tread type.

Camskill are worth a look but also Protyre local centres - they're all owned by what was Micheldever who are a distributor. They were the cheapest by miles for my 20" Michelin Super Sports on my D2 - paid £240 each for them, unfitted as I took them in with my wheels to be refurbished and got them to do it. Worth a couple of calls once you've established the best online price and you can probably get a few quid more off.

On the tyre rotation front, if you're replacing a pair put the newest on the back. It gives safer handling, allows your new tyres a gentler time during bedding in so they last longer, makes you wear out the old tyres on the front end quicker so they're not too aged. If putting 4 on check your spare and if it's as old as the car consider rotating one of your removed tyres onto the spare wheel, if they're a good few years newer and still serviceable.
