Default Phone connection

I was in a mates car the other day and he has the same feature as the A8 where you can pair up your phone via bluetooth and voice commands etc.

Anyway i thought it was cool so decided to do mine, it wont bloody pair with the bluetooth though! I followed instructions and even a video tutorial on how to do it but it keeps saying 'cannot be paired at this time'

Any ideas?

And also what use is that massive ass car phone in the center console? Do you have to put a sim in to use it??

Ah.. if you have the one with the handset and the SIM hole underneath, then you can't pair your phone to it (well.. there is one option that was available but was rare.. I think that had the colour screen).

Option 1 - Put a SIM in and divert your calls to that when you get in the car (PITA)

Option 2 - Replace the Phone unit under the passenger floor with the bluetooth one, not so cheap, but much better, and you can take the handset out the console.

If your provider does it, then that'll work, though not many did.

You may need a firmware update to take modern SIM cards though.

Where does it say "'cannot be paired at this time'"? Phone or car? If you need Bluetooth enabled telephone unit I may have one

Could it be that the phone already has a phone paired to it and you can only pair one phone at a time?

You have the same phone as me, you cannot pair anything with it except the Bluetooth handset in the car.

Essentially the car is a telephone in its own right, and you cannot pair another telephone with it only dumb BT handsets.

After upgrading the MMI software, I put an O2 PAYG card in with some credit on. When I am in the car I redirect incoming calls to that number, and it obviously works fine for outgoing with credit on the PAYG sim. Before I upgraded the MMI, the sim card was rejected as invalid.

Orange were the only network that used to offer (business users only) a pair of sims which linked. I had one in my A7 sim slot and the other in my phone and you could nominate which sim was the primary and which was the secondary. I had my iphone as the primary then when I got into the car turned it off and it automatically defaulted to the Car sim instead. Not sure if EE still offer the option now though
