Default Something NOT right... (Engine, smoke etc etc)

Good evening.

After dinner at the in-laws i backed the car out on idle and just noticed it "lost" a cyllinder or 2..

Turned her off and on again but no difference, car runs but with less power and when i got home (4 min drive) it smelt like gas all over the place and there is abnourmous amounts of smoke from the exhauts.

Vcds throws these codes:

2 Faults Found:
16538 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B2 S1
P0154 - 35-00 - No Activity
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1
P1131 - 35-00 - Internal Resistance too High
Readiness: 0000 0000

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have so far removed all the plastic covers and tried removing the coil connectors one by one to see if there is one not responding and it seems like the nr 2 on the driver side(Europe) is non respondable...

But shouldnt' Vcds show if the coil pack is broken?

If so and it doesnt i'm thinking the cyllinder is shot?(worst case ofcourse)

Maybe compression test tomorrow ?

Unbolt all coilpacks

Start engine

Lift coilpacks one by one and listen for a clicking sound. This means that coilpack is firing.

When it makes no noise when lifted you know somethings wrong. Word of warning, swap the duff coilpack with a working one from another cylinder to make sure the plug is getting power.

If there is still no activity even from a known working coipack then it will be one of the 2 igntion amplifiers found on the drivers side fron turret under the plastic cover

Sounds exactly like mine when a coilpack failed, should just be a case of get a new one (they are not expensive) and replace. They seem to fail suddenly, which is what happened to me.

VCDS should be reporting a cylinder misfire in 01, engine and this would be the pack to replace.

The lambda errors could be cause by unburnt fuel being dumped on the probe.

As far as i can see, Vcds does not report any missfire, even with the suspected coil disconnected it wont show any errors other then the Lambda's mentioned earlier, Isn't that strange??

Played around and got these.

Address 01: Engine (4D0 907 558 J)

10:30:44
-13.3 % O2 Sens Bank1 +/-10%(>2% flct)
-25.0 % O2 Sens Bank2 +/-10%(>2% flct)
-3.1 % Lambda
Total misfires 0-5
1.872 V Cylinder 1 Volts
1.872 V Cylinder 2 Volts
2.340 V Cylinder 3 Volts
1.872 V Cylinder 4 Volts
2.691 V Cylinder 5 Volts
2.574 V Cylinder 6 Volts
2.574 V Cylinder 7 Volts
2.457 V Cylinder 8 Volts

Anyone read some interesting from this?

The coils are different on the D3, not sure with the D2. The difference is mostly the length to the spark plug, so if they are the same length and the connector is the same it should work.

Update:

Changed location of 2 of the coilpacks to make sure the one was dead.
Well, now it all works for some reason and i have ordered 2 new coils since its just a matter of minutes before it dies i guess..

Tok me a good 10 min drive to clear the exhaust for umburned gas.. I can assure that the amount of smoke has to be some kinda record.

My son had a failing coilpack on his S4 a while back, caused all sorts of oddness.
By the time he got it into the garage for rectification 2 had definitely gone.
They replaced all 8 on a precautionary basis.
