Hi.
As my pump died earlier this year i finally got round to look for a replacement. The part no for the pump in my car was 8l0 862 257G. Since they are hard to come by here in Norway i managed to find one from an Audi A3 that has 8l0 862 257L. According to Etka the G is the replacement for L so i had hoped this would work smoothly. I have recoded the L pump to the same coding as the G pump had, i have tried the Ross-Tech Wiki for recoding keys without any luck. According to VCDS there is no keys coded at the moment after the new pump went in. The strange thing is that the Alarm is not present a all, even when locking the car manually it wont turn on as it did with the ruined pump still connected. Wondering if the L is not workable on the S8 D2 or is there something i'm missing? Help appreciated ![]()

I assume it was the mechanical pump itself that was faulty and the rest of the unit was working OK. In that case I would suggest swapping the pump and/or motor into the old unit or buy a repair kit for old pump. There used to be a guy selling repair kits on e-bay but cannot find any at the moment.
Edit: here is one on USA site: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A4-A8-C...39eb78&vxp=mtr

Update. Alarm is active on manual locking so there must be something regarding the coding process..
The pump inside the old unit is for sure dead but since it brakes all fuses related to Windows/central locking/sunroof imediatly when pushing open or close on the keyfob i'm afraid there is more then just the pump that is fried. Moving the pump parts over, is that a 300 pcs puzzle or a straight swap? Jan

If the pump is stuck motor could be drawing too much current and blowing the fuse. I have done repair kit only once on A4 quite few years ago so don't remember exactly but should not be too hard to swap the pump wear bits over, not sure about the motor itself. As your old unit is out of the car why not take it apart and have a closer look. That might give you idea what is wrong on how much job is swapping the pump over.

If I remember correctly motor had to come out anyway to change the pump bits just don't remember if wires had a plug or possibly soldered.

Opened up both units and quickly saw that the L unit was missing a few pieces on the "motherboard" and the fault on my G unit was total engine failure..
Just moved the conplete motor/ pump from the L unit over to the G unit, no soldering needed and now the originally broken G unit is working like brand new. Happy ending ![]()

If that's as easy as it sounds could you take a few pictures and do a short "how to" (removal, repair, reinstall) as a separate thread which will no doubt be "stickied".

Thanks for the howto, I now recall the pump is below the alarm siren but easier to get at.
![]() That actually looks fairly easy to dismantle and swap the motor. ![]()
